1. Businesses are
frequently the targets of crime and on the front line dealing with societal
problems in the area; what steps do you think should be taken to ensure
businesses are protected and our community is safer to explore, shop, work and
play in.
A first step would be to
1) Move the Shelter to a central
location in the intercity zone
2) Design a parallel shelter near
the Salvation Army’s new facility in the north.
3) Improve the health services
capacities near The Shelter.
No matter what location is chosen
the pressure on the South Core business community must be alleviated.
2. What is your
impression of the Fort William Business community? What is one thing that is
done well and what is one thing that needs to improve?
They proven their resilience and as
I use several services in the area (dentistry, optometry, groceries,
haberdashery etc.) the one thing that needs to improve is an uptake in
utilizing vacant spaces. This I truly believe can happen!
3. With the
revitalization of downtown Fort William project underway there is no planned
community center for the area after the project is completed. Victoriaville
provided an important and safe gathering place. What vision do you
have to recreate a similar environment for community connectivity?
It can be made into a pleasant and
safe area to shop and also to receive a wide range of financial and medical
services.
There is enough space for creative
and safe redesign of a functional community facility.
With a unified core business and
service community bolstered by the removal of the parkade it is fair to say
this is cause for optimism.
